About the author

Alice Graham lives by the motto, “We accomplish in proportion to what we attempt,” and she has attempted and accomplished much. A native of Kansas, she attended Northland Pioneer College and honed her writing skills at summer seminars in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She and her husband, Leonard, moved to Winslow, Arizona in 1971, and entered into business there. They found time be active in a wide variety of community activities. Alice is a past president of the Winslow Enrichment Association, member of PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization), a past board member of the Chamber of Commerce, and is an active member of GFWC (General Federation of Women’s Clubs). She has traveled widely to assist these organizations, serving as president of the Winslow Women’s Club and as state president of GFWC-AZ.

Although The Adventures of Chester is Alice Graham’s first children’s book, she has spent a lifetime working with young people and promoting their welfare. Early in her career she was a field representative for the National Farmers Union, serving as director and recreation director of state camps, teaching children the history of agriculture and a variety of sports. More recently, the Grahams have hosted, through the GFWC Experiment in International Living, ten children from around the world. Alice also received a $10,000 grant from the State Department of Energy to teach conservation to kindergarten children and was appointed to the Statewide Chemical Abuse Prevention Interagency Committee, which promotes the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use among Arizona’s school children.
