THRASHED–A Surfing Term: caught inside of a set
of waves; pounded; beaten by water forcing you back, again and again;
held forcibly under moving water; twisted, turned, shoved to the bottom,
slammed down on it; drowned or nearly drowned in a no-man’s land
between the shore and the breaking waves.
Surfing waves on the coast of southern Mexico, rowing rafts through
white water in the Grand Canyon, dangling from a rope to climb thousand
foot cliffs, and working cattle with wild cowboys are all parts of
Cherri’s adventures. Vividly described scenes of extreme challenge
in the wild outdoors, and in the wilderness of relationships, give
the reader an appreciation of nature’s serene beauty, and a glimpse
of Cherri’s terror. Amazing men come and go in her life, leaving
memories of passionate sex, abortions, a deeply broken heart, and sometimes
bruises and broken bones.
Cherri goes on adventure trips while raising two children and running
her own business. She faces emotional and physical trials with courage
as she finds out about her abusive past. Cherri gains a sense of
peace from spiritual inspiration of the great outdoors, a self-disciplined
yoga practice, and an undying will to live, fueled by a promise to
her mother.
Based on Cynthia Carlisi’s experiences as a “wild woman” of
the west, this is her first book. She has a lot more tales to tell,
so keep in touch.
